Personal Training National Certification

Be part of one of the hottest jobs in America! The Department of Recreational Sports and the World Instructor Training Schools (WITS) offer personal training national certification here on campus.

This six-week intensive program provides in-class theory and hands on practical training. Certification is awarded upon completion of the course, a 30-hour internship, passing exams, and providing proof of current CPR certification.

WITS Personal Training

Course Details & Location

Location:
The Recreation and Physical Activity Center (RPAC) on the Ohio State campus, located at 337 W. 17th Avenue (south of Ohio Stadium).

Course Material:
Fitness Professional's Handbook, Howley & Franks, 5th edition (Text book is required and not included in the cost).

Course Structure:
Lectures (15 hours)

  • Exercise Physiology
  • Fundamentals of Anatomy
  • Biomechanics and Applied Kinesiology
  • Health Screenings
  • Fitness Testing
  • Cardio respiratory Fitness and Exercise
  • Muscular Strength and Endurance
  • Flexibility

Practical (15 hours)

  • Fitness Assessments
  • Client Rapport 
  • Biomechanics of Exercise
  • Equipment Usages
  • Weight Training Techniques

Certification Requirements

  • Proof of current CPR (for issuance of certificate)
  • Attendance at 4 of the 5 weeks of the course
  • Passing grades on both the written and practical exams
  • Completion of 30-hour practical internship

Registration Cost:
All costs are based on registering beginning Monday, February 1st, 2010

  • $439 for current Ohio State Rec Sports Employees
  • $489 for all other Ohio State students and affiliates
  • $539 for the general public
  • Reduced rate parking permits are available for affiliate/community members for $7.50/month or $22.50/quarter

WITS and Recreational Sports are offering CEU courses for those needing to recertify in 2010.  All workshops are 6 hours long and cost $99 each.
