Rights and Responsibilities
Students, faculty, and staff of The Ohio State University have the right to expect the finest programs, services, facilities and equipment as consistent with the Department’s mission statement. The Department of Recreational Sports serves the University as a unit of the Office of Students Affairs.
We are committed to offering a welcoming environment for the University community and operating within an environment of mutual respect.
Rights As a valued recreational sports member of this university community you have the right to:
1. Quality indoor and outdoor facilities that are clean, safe, and well maintained, which meet the diverse recreational sports needs and interests of the campus community.
2. Program opportunities encompassing a variety of activities.
3. A learning environment.
4. Grievance resolution with a Department of Recreational Sports professional staff member who can assist in addressing concerns.
5. Freedom from the threat of intimidation and/or emotional harm.
6. Expect that all rights will be respected.
7. Expect that our policies, procedures, and standards of conduct will be enforced.
8. Expect comprehensive information regarding facilities, programs and services.
9. A timely response to expressed concerns.
10. Individuals with disabilities have a right to reasonable accommodation that ensures equal opportunity to participate in, and benefit from, our recreational sports programs and activities.
Responsibilities As a valued recreational sports member of this university community you have the responsibility to:
1. Abide by all policies, laws and regulations established by the State of Ohio and The Ohio State University and the Department of Recreational Sports.
2. Cooperate with ALL recreational sports staff members.
3. Respect all reasonable requests of fellow members.
4. Treat fellow members and recreational sports staff with respect.
5. Take responsibility for personal and community safety and security.
6. Recognize that everyone uses the recreational facilities and their furnishings. Abuse of those areas violates the rights of all recreational sports members.
7. Be an active member and communicate your needs to the recreational sports staff.
8. Individuals with disabilities who choose to participate in our programs and activities have a responsibility to identify themselves as needing accommodation in a timely fashion.
